Taking a Proactive Approach to External Hard Drive Care
So… you have your photos backed up on a (hopefully only on one) external hard drive, so you’re good. There's no need to worry about them. Wrong.
Hate to break it to you buuuut, the “experts” recommend replacing your hard drive every five years to safeguard against data loss. WHAT?! I know that is so unfortunate. Better to know now, though, right?
When you know better, you do better. So now you know, let's make a plan to update your hard drives that are over that 5-year mark. After you purchase a new drive, connect the old and new drives to your computer and transfer the contents directly to the new drive to save all of your precious memories.
I would also highly suggest that you look into cloud backup services as an off-site storage option in addition to your external hard drive. These services offer a secure and convenient way to preserve your photos, protecting against unforeseen circumstances.
